Bernie Fine, Syracuse University coach, accused of sexually molesting young boys

Syracuse University basketball coach Bernie Fine is accused of molesting boys for nearly 12 years. Syracuse police are investigating the allegations that Fine molested a team ball boy for several years beginning in the mid-1980s. Police are in the early stages of the investigation.

Bobby Davis, The now 39 year old alleged victim, said that Bernard Fine first began molesting him in 1983 just before Davis entered seventh grade. Bobby Davis was the team’s ball boy in 1984 for six years. Apparently the alleged abuse occurred at Fine’s home, as well as Syracuse basketball facilities, and on road trips, including the 1987 Final Four.

Police are also investigating accusations that a relative of Davis was also a victim of sexual abuse by Fine about the same time. Bernie Fine currently in his 35th season at Syracuse University as an assistant to head coach Jim Boeheim.

A statement on behalf of the school by Kevin Quinn, Syracuse’s senior vice president for public affairs, stated: “In 2005, Syracuse University was contacted by an adult male who told us that he had reported to the Syracuse City Police that he had been subjected to inappropriate contact by an associate men’s basketball coach. The alleged activity took place in the 1980’s and 1990’s. We were informed by the complainant that the Syracuse City Police had declined to pursue the matter because the statute of limitations had expired.
